COST REDUCTION

A widely acknowledged fact that cost reduction is one of the most challenging tasks that an organization can undertake, especially when there are so many options open to cost-conscious managers. A best approach is to “begin at the beginning”, by understanding that controlling operating costs & reducing waste is fundamental to improving your competitive advantage in the market place.

By having a systematic approach to the processes and deploying various management tools will help reducing the cost and drive the organizations to profitability.

PROFIT MAXIMIZATION

Profit maximization is the process of identifying the most efficient manner of obtaining the highest rate of return from its production / service model. There are several different approaches to this pursuit of the highest profit margin that may be used by any corporation or business. Most approaches require that the company look closely at the costs of production / service, the current levels of supply and demand, and the price that can be obtained for each unit while still attracting the highest volume of consumers.

ORGANIZATION RE-STRUCTURING / BUSINESS RE-ENGINEERING

Business Process reengineering – A Powerful tool for organization change.

A change in a company’s organization design is not always made because the company is in trouble. Of course, such demands often do arise when a company is having problems. But it doesn't need to be so: management might have realigned, or even redefined its strategic goals and sees that it must now reorganize the company to achieve those new objectives.

A company might want to expand regionally, even globally; or may be planning to introduce innovative products that require new support systems and marketing approaches; might even be downsizing or outsourcing some of the non-core operations.

A company can get into trouble for a number of reasons—poor cash flow management; producing outdated, or superseded products; clinging to a business model that no longer reflects the realities of the marketplace; deviating from core competencies and being distracted by so-called “diversification” strategies; failure to gain new market share; and so on. In fact, before taking any definitive steps, the organization should seriously consider using an outside organization that has broad experience—and demonstrable success—in bringing about company-wide change.

BUSINESS PROCESS MAPPING

Business Process mapping is a description of how your organization works—for example, what happens to a customer request or requirement received, who receives it, who review it, who process it, who deliver it, and so on. After process mapping, you’ll have an exact picture of the way your organization delivers its services. This makes it easier to see what works well and what doesn’t, so you can think about how to improve things that aren’t working well.

Your first process map gives you a starting point (a baseline), against which you can measure the effects of the changes you make. It also provides a very useful tool for orienting new staff.

Benefits of process mapping are:

• Provide a picture of what you do now
• Gives a total and transparent view of the process.
• Provides a clear and logical way of thinking about your process.
• Provides a way of communicating your process to others.
• Highlight where things aren’t working well
• Help you to assess the flow of activity.
• Help you to work out how your resources (money and staff) are used.
• Help you to work out how many services you can deliver, and how well your organization can deliver them.
• Provide the baseline data for improving your service and measuring how well your changes work.
• Highlights potential ‘fail’ and ‘delay’ points.
• Highlights precisely how stakeholders are operationally involved.
• Identifies how you can strategically seek feedback for process improvement purposes.
• Improving Processes via Flowcharts
• Flowcharts can help identify unhelpful waiting times.
• Process redundancy.
• Help you decide precisely how to plan for effective quality assurance.
• Speed could be improved by doing some steps in parallel.
• Duplicated steps could be removed or merged.
• Introducing appropriate quality control could help improve the final result

SIX SIGMA

Six Sigma is a proven disciplined approach for improving measurable results for any organization. Six Sigma project success stories exist from organizations including manufacturing, service, and nonprofit, government, research and healthcare.

Six Sigma is a business management strategy originally developed by Motorola, USA in 1986.As of 2010; it is widely used in many sectors of industry, although its use is not without controversy. Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. It uses a set of quality management methods, including statistical methods, and creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization ("Black Belts", "Green Belts", etc.) who are experts in these methods. Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined sequence of steps and has quantified financial targets (cost reduction or profit increase).

The term six sigma originated from terminology associated with manufacturing, specifically terms associated with statistical modeling of manufacturing processes. The maturity of a manufacturing process can be described by a sigma rating indicating its yield, or the percentage of defect-free products it creates. A six-sigma process is one in which 99.99966% of the products manufactured are statistically expected to be free of defects (3.4 defects per million). Motorola set a goal of "six sigmas" for all of its manufacturing operations, and this goal became a byword for the management and engineering practices used to achieve it.
